Thomas Isherwood is an operatic bass baritone from Watford, UK.

After performing with several local dramatic societies and the National Youth Music Theatre he trained at the Royal Northern College of Music, Guildhall School of Music & Drama and the Royal College of Music. He currently studies with the renowned British bass, Matthew Rose.

In 2015 he made his professional debut with alongside Sir Bryn Terfel in Fiddler on the Roof and the role of Happy in La Fanciulla del West with Grange Park Opera. Following two years of professional work, he successfully auditioned for the Royal College of Music’s International Opera Studio and in 2018 performed the role of Count Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro directed by Sir Thomas Allen.

Thomas has since performed as a member of the chorus and featured soloist for Glyndebourne Festival Opera in The Wreckers, Le nozze di Figaro, La Bohème & Mozart’s Requiem on tour, as well as performing solo excerpts from the Requiem for several hundred children from local schools as part of Glyndebourne’s community outreach work.

In 2023 he returned to Grange Park Opera in the roles of Sciarrone (Tosca), Steuermann (Tristan und Isolde) to critical acclaim and in 2026 he will have his principal role debut as Donner in Wagner’s Das Rheingold, as part of a brand new production of The Ring Cycle.

In 2024 he reprised the role of Marcello in The King’s Head Theatre’s Olivier Award nominated production of La Bohème for The Opera Makers at Grimbeborn Festival, winning Best Opera Production at the annual Off West-End Awards.

Recent performance highlights include Handel’s Messial at Canterbury Cathedral, Mendelssohn’s Elijah with Hampstead Chorus and Javert in Les Misérables for the London Musical Theatre Orchestra.

Possessing a voice of great dramatic potential, he hopes to one day perform the great bass baritone roles of Verdi, Wagner & Puccini onstage, whilst also maintaining a strong connection with the world of art song and recital performance; bringing opera and classical singing to new audiences through accessible programming and emotive communication through performance.
